A Cased Pair Of 50-Bore Over-And-Under Percussion Pistols
Signed Smith & Alden, Mid-19th Century

With case-hardened sighted barrels engraved around the muzzles and with scrolling foliage at the breech, threaded plugs, signed case-hardened foliate scroll engraved tangs, actions, rounded dolphin hammers, foliate engraved safety-catches and mounts, the last comprising trigger-guards and rounded pommels, the latter each with hinged butt-trap cover engraved with a flowerhead, vacant silver escutcheons, stirrup ramrods with engraved tips, and some original finish: in contemporary relined and refitted mahogany case with some accessories including brass-mounted three-way flask retaining much of its original lacquered finish, the exterior of the lid with vacant circular brass escutcheon and flush-fitting brass carrying handle, Birmingham proof marks
