A 12-Bore Flintlock Sporting Gun With Left-Hand Lock

With earlier rebrowned Spanish two-stage sighted barrel with turned and chiselled girdle and faceted breech, the latter inlaid in silver with the date '1750', a cross, dots and other marks, silver-lined touch-hole, foliate scroll engraved tang, earlier flat bevelled lock signed 'Smith, Bath' and engraved with a gamebird on the stepped tail, a starburst behind the pan (steel refaced), engraved safety-catch and cock (top jaw and screw replaced) and large roller, figured half-stock with chequered grip, foliate scroll engraved blued steel mounts comprising butt-plate (some rust patination) and scroll trigger-guard, trigger-plate with scroll engraved pineapple-shaped finial, vacant silver escutcheon, barrel-bolt escutcheons and fore-end cap, and later horn-tipped ramrod
