A Cased 17½ Bore D.B. Percussion Sporting Gun
By J. Purdey, Princes Street, Leicester Square, London, No. 682 For Circa 1824

With rebrowned twist sighted barrels signed in full along the rib, breeches engraved with foliage between and each with short platinum line and pierced platinum plug, foliate engraved tang, signed foliate engraved locks and hammers each involving coiled monsters, highly figured half-stock with chequered grip, steel mounts comprising recoloured serial numbered trigger-guard engraved with foliage inhabited by a pheasant on the bow, trigger-plate with engraved pineapple-shaped finial, and replacement butt-plate, vacant silver escutcheon and barrel-bolt escutcheons, and original brass-mounted ramrod: in later lined and fitted brass-mounted mahogany case (lid split, lock damaged) by the maker with some accessories including Hawksley powder-flask, the body embossed with hanging game framed by branches of oak on one side, and with fruiting vines on the other, a leather shot-flask (worn) tooled with hanging game on one side, and an original leather tool wallet containing a bright steel combination tool and threaded nipple funnel, the inside of the lid with maker's label with 314½ Oxford Street address, the exterior with circular brass escutcheon engraved with owner's crest and flush-fitting brass carrying handle engraved 'Norwich.', London proof marks, the barrels forged by Charles Lancaster
