A 16-Bore D.B. Percussion Sporting Gun
By J. Purdey Of Princes Street, Leicester Square, London, No. 671 For Circa 1824

With rebrowned twist sighted barrels (replaced during the gun's working life), breeches each with short platinum line and engraved with foliage between, pierced platinum plugs, signed foliate engraved locks and hammers (one hammer nose repaired, one retaining screw replaced) each involving coiled monsters and originally fitted with patent safety-catch engaging with the rear of each hammer, figured half-stock (some bruising) with chequered grip, foliate engraved steel mounts comprising butt-plate and trigger-guard (replaced during the gun's working life), silver escutcheon engraved 'C.B. Wale gift of Col. Mahon', and silver barrel-bolt escutcheons (ramrod missing, some wear and rust patination), London proof marks
