Converted from roller primer, with russet twist sighted barrels signed in elaborate gold gothic script along the rib, breeches inlaid with engraved gold lines, foliate engraved tang, signed border engraved flat bevelled locks (one hammer missing) each decorated with foliage and with stepped tail and safety-catch (one incomplete), and numbered '1858' and '1859' respectively on the inside, figured half-stock (some splits, repaired beneath one lock) with chequered grip and fore-end, the former carved in relief on the underside with a dog's head issuing from a spray of foliage, raised cheekpiece, engraved russet iron mounts comprising butt-plate and D-shaped trigger-guard, trigger-plate with pineapple finial, vacant gold escutcheon, engraved silver fore-end cap, and brass-tipped ramrod, possibly original (worn and rust patinated overall), London proof marks, the barrels forged by William Fullerd

Richard Fenton of 19 Shoemaker Row, Blackfriars, is recorded between 1792 and 1815. Free of the Loriners Company by redempton in 1807, he devised improved rifle sights incorporating a platinum strip in 1808, and was a member of the Duke of Cumberland Sharpshooters, winning a gold medal in 1810.
