A Rare .40-63 Ballard No. 5 Pacific Breech-Loading Centre-Fire Target Rifle
No. 17999, Circa 1876-91

With octagonal sighted rifled barrel stamped '40-63' at the breech, adjustable 'buck-horn' back-sight, action stamped 'J.M. Marlin, New Haven Conn. U.S.A. Ballard's Patent Nov. 5. 1861' on one side, falling-block action operated by the trigger-guard with finger-loop, figured fore-end and butt, curved steel butt-plate, and double set triggers (ramrod missing, steel parts rust patinated)
