A .45/70 Springfield 1873 Model 'Trapdoor' Rifle
No. 212232, Circa 1873-77

With sighted barrel retained by two spring-held barrel bands, folding adjustable back-sight, sprung hinged breech-block secured by a sprung thumb-catch on the right side, flat lock with American eagle and 'U.S. Springfield', full stock (chipped around the barrel tang and behind the lock) with inspector's mark opposite the lock and 'P' in a circle behind the trigger-guard tang, iron mounts including butt-plate stamped 'US' and 'SC' on the heel tang, sling loops, and later iron ramrod (steel parts pitted overall)
