A Fine Cased Pair Of Viennese 54-Bore Percussion Target Pistols

With browned twist sighted barrels each of octagonal section at the muzzle, rifled with twelve grooves, and signed in full and numbered '1' and '2' in gold respectively along the sighting flat, foliate engraved case-hardened breeches and tangs, the latter each with blued adjustable back-sight, foliate scroll engraved case-hardened locks and hammers (one retaining screw missing), the former involving a reclining naked male figure grasping a fowl by the neck, a grotesque mask on the stepped tail and inscribed 'Nowotny' and 'In Wien' respectively, the latter each involving a profile demon's head, varnished highly figured half-stocks carved with a scallop shell on each fore-end and with fluted butts, mounts comprising shaped case-hardened side-plates and pommels engraved with scrolling foliage, the former each involving a sphinx, blued trigger-guards each engraved with scrolling foliage on the bow, trigger-plates each with shaped finial en suite, vacant white-metal escutcheons, and in fine condition retaining nearly all their original finish: in original lined and fitted walnut-veneered case with full accessories including circular white-metal mounted mother-of-pearl powder-flask, white-metal adjustable powder-measure and iron bullet mould, the exterior of the lid with marquetry border
