A Cased Pair Of Continental 40-Bore Percussion Target Pistols
No. 760, Mid-19th Century

With browned twist octagonal sighted polygroove rifled barrels, border engraved breeches numbered '1' to '2' in gold respectively, foliate engraved tangs each incorporating a back-sight, border engraved case-hardened detented flat locks each decorated with foliage, hammers and mounts en suite, the latter comprising ovoidal pommel-caps each with waved border and spur trigger-guards, figured half-stocks (one fore-end with minor split) each with chequered butt and oval pommel carved with a band of overlapping leaves, foliate engraved fore-end caps also forming the rear ramrod-entry, vacant white-metal escutcheons, set triggers, and original brass-tipped ramrod (the other replaced): in original bur walnut-veneered fitted brass-mounted case lined in red baize (minor moth damage) with accessories (two missing) including brass-mounted cowhorn powder-flask and iron bullet mould, the exterior of the lid (split) with ovoidal brass escutcheon with owner's monogram and flush-fitting folding brass carrying handle
