A Cased Liège 20-Bore D.B. Percussion Sporting Gun For Shot Or Ball

With browned damascus twist sighted barrels inlaid with gold and silver lines at the muzzles and breeches, the latter with waved gold and silver lines and dots beyond, the rib inscribed 'Damascus Extrafins' in gold gothic letters between inlaid gold and silver foliage, breeches chiselled and engraved with foliage between, long tang en suite and engraved with a gundog with a gamebird in its mouth, back-action locks signed in gold, each engraved with a differing sporting scene in a landscape and chiselled with vine leaves, hammers chiselled en suite and each with nose formed as a monster's head, varnished highly figured half-stock with carved grip and fore-end, the butt carved in relief behind the trigger-guard tang with a bearded bacchant face with glass eyes, a carved serpentine scroll beneath the cheekpiece on each side, one side enclosing a waterfowl, and on the other with a white-metal patch-box, the hinged lid cast and chased with a trapped wolf, white-metal mounts cast and chased with fruiting vines against finely punched grounds and including trigger-guard and butt-plate, the latter engraved 'Cesare Taglïasacchi', probably the original owner's name, sling mounts, original white-metal mounted ramrod, and in fine condition: in original mahogany case fitted and lined in burgundy velvet with accessories comprising brass-mounted powder- and shot-flasks, the former with copper body embossed with a sporting trophy and hanging game on each side, the latter with buff-leather body, turnscrew and iron bullet mould, the exterior of the lid with shaped vacant brass escutcheon, Liège proof
