The First By Nowotny In Wien, The Second By G. Lachmann In Läehn, Both Mid-19th Century

The first with etched twist sighted barrels each rifled with eight grooves and inlaid in gold with a line of Greek key-pattern at the breech, folding-leaf back-sight, long tang (reinforced at the rear) engraved with foliage inhabited by a stag in a landscape, signed border engraved back-action locks each decorated with foliage inhabited by a boar in a landscape and a stag with one of its front legs in a trap respectively, foliate engraved dolphin hammers and safety-bolsters, figured half-stock with chequered grip (repaired with two iron plates retained by screws) and fore-end, the latter with vacant silver escutcheon, cheekpiece, engraved iron butt-plate and trigger-guard each decorated with a stag in a landscape, the latter with wooden spur, set triggers, sling mounts, and original ramrod with white-metal tip (some wear and rust patination overall); the second of similar form, with etched twist and damascus sighted barrels signed in gold gothic script along the rib, tang engraved with owner's initials in an oval between gold-inlaid foliage, locks (one hammer retaining screw replaced) decorated with an eagle and a fox respectively, both in a landscape, and foliate scroll engraved steel butt-plate and trigger-guard (some wear and patination overall) (2)
