A Continental 18-Bore Percussion Target Rifle, And A French 55-Bore Percussion Target Rifle
Both Mid-19th Century

The first with russet octagonal sighted barrel rifled with fourteen grooves, foliate engraved breech and tang, the latter fitted with long-range peep-sight, foliate scroll engraved detented lock (trigger mechanism missing), figured full stock with cheekpiece (some wear and minor damage), foliate scroll engraved iron mounts comprising curved butt-plate with scrolled lower extension, hinged trigger-guard indented for the fingers and with looped forward hand-rest, turned ramrod-pipes, the rear one with foliate engraved extension back to the trigger-guard, and horn fore-end cap (ramrod missing, iron parts rust patinated overall); the second of similar form, the barrel with recessed muzzle, rifled with six grooves and inscribed 'Acier Fondu' in gold gothic script along the top flat, breech tang and mounts engraved with vines, half-stock, and turned horn baluster hand-rest (lock and ramrod missing, iron parts rust patinated overall)(2)
