A Caucasian Gold- And Silver-Mounted Combined Riding-Crop And Dagger
Dated 1340 A.H. Corresponding To 1921 A.D.

With wood-lined silver shaft of circular section also forming the scabbard and decorated overall with designs of nielloed foliage between wrigglework borders, towards the bottom two panels of Arabic calligraphy, one dated, almost certainly the maker's and owner's names, and with a buff-leather tab, sharply tapering fullered blade of stiff diamond section, and dark horn grip formed in the round as the lower leg of a horse (horseshoe missing) with gold bridle and gold and silver saddle, gold mounts engraved respectively 'Adil', with the initial 'A' and foliage, and pierced and engraved with the letter 'S' in an oval, an engraved gold horseshoe and sword opposite, nielloed silver basal mount with applied gold monogram and set with a coiled snake, its tail forming a spring-catch, and silver chain for suspension
