A Scottish Basket-Hilted Broadsword
Second Quarter Of The 18th Century

With tapering double-edged blade with two narrow fullers on each side of the forte each indistinctly stamped 'Andrea Ferara' and with remains of incised running wolf mark beyond on one side, iron guard of slender rectangular bars framing lightly fretted and incised saltires and side panels pierced with hearts and small circles, and with an open aperture for the reins, fore-guards, small scrolled wrist-guard, line engraved bun-shaped pommel with compressed button, and original fishskin-covered grip spirally-bound with twisted brass wire between Turk's heads (some pitting overall)
