A Scottish Basket-Hilted Backsword
Second Quarter Of The 18th Century

With tapering blade double-edged at the point and cut with a narrow fuller along the back for most of its length on each side, iron guard of narrow rounded bars (fore-ends missing) framing saltires and ovoidal panels pierced with stylised hearts and circles, flat scrolled wrist-guard, compressed bun-shaped pommel, probably earlier, and later spirally-grooved wooden grip (some pitting overall)
