A Basket-Hilted Backsword For An Officer Of A Highland Regiment
Third Quarter Of The 18th Century

With broad fullered blade double-edged towards the point and stamped 'Birmingham' within the broader fuller on each side at the forte, blackened iron guard of flattened bars framing saltires and side panels pierced with hearts and circles, and with an oval aperture for the reins, fore-guards, replacement rounded pommel in turned blackened wood with flat button, and spirally-grooved fishskin-covered grip retaining a brass Turk's head (wire binding missing, some rust patination and pitting overall)
