A Composite Scottish Officer's Basket-Hilted Backsword
The Hilt Late 18th/19th Century

With earlier tapering blade double-edged towards the point and cut with two shallow fullers over most of its length on each side, one fuller on each side at the forte stamped 'Alisandro Dimese Attero' between florets, iron basket-guard of similar form to the last (one bar broken) and with a ring around the base of the later compressed bun-shaped pommel, and later wooden grip wrapped in blackened cloth (some rust patination and wear overall), in leather scabbard with linear engraved brass locket and chape
