Mid-17th Century

With later broad curved single-edged blade, iron hilt comprising downbent shell-guard on the outside pierced and chiselled with foliage framing a portrait medallion, downscrolled rear quillon, flat tapering knuckle-guard formed as a double-scroll, chiselled with foliage on the outside and screwed to the pommel-cap, the latter chiselled with foliage and with scrolled beak and button finial, inner thumb-ring chiselled and pierced with two holes, later wire-bound wooden grip, and retaining an original chiselled iron ferrule
