An Officer's Sword
Circa 1780

With earlier broad double-edged blade incised with running wolf mark above three narrow fullers at the forte on each side, a latten-filled orb and cross mark beyond, steel half-basket guard of bars of oval section and comprising three diagonal side-bars on the outside swept-up to join the knuckle-guard and each carrying three, two and one scroll respectively, asymmetrical lower guard filled with double scrolls on each side, slender rear quillon, globular pommel with button finial, spirally-grooved fishskin-covered grip bound with silver ribbon, and retaining its original buff-leather liner (russet finish overall)
