A German Horseman's Hammer
Early 16th Century

With small iron head with waisted rectangular hammer-head balanced by a beak-shaped fluke of diamond section and incised with lines, the socket chiselled with a flat shield on each side, one side with a short flattened belt hook (bent), on original wooden haft of rectangular section (minor splits and worming) partly encased in eight iron straps each tapering to a swelling point towards the centre (iron parts pitted)
54 cm.
