A European Horseman's Axe
Probably 17th Century

With axe-head with crescentic cutting-edge drawn-out to a blunt point above and below, rectangular socket extended to form a pointed beak-shaped fluke of diamond section, and secured to the haft by two riveted iron side-straps, on wooden haft of circular section retaining its original velvet covering (worn and damaged) secured by numerous dome-headed brass nails retaining traces of gilding (some rust patination)
