A Rare Flemish Gunner's Double Linstock
Mid-17th Century

With flat ovoidal head etched on each side with scrolled shield bearing a crowned lion against a partly hatched ground, drawn-out at the top to form a slender spike of stiff diamond section, and with curved match-holders secured by screws on either side beneath, each head formed as a stylised monster's head with wing-screw for setting the position of the match, tapering socket of circular section with three ring mouldings, and long side-straps, on painted wooden staff of circular section, possibly original, with later tassels
