With curved fullered blade (some wear and pitting) retaining traces of etching at the forte including martial trophies, crowned 'GR' cypher, an infantryman, and crowned royal arms beneath a baldachin, the back at the forte etched 'Ratcliffe' and engraved 'Wooley & Deakin's Impro'd Steel', gilt stirrup hilt with five-ball side-guard, ring for a sword-knot at the top of the knuckle-guard (the latter replaced), lion's head pommel and faceted back-piece, and ribbed ivory grip (split) bound with twisted copper wire, in later black leather scabbard with shaped linear engraved brass locket, chape and suspension mount, and with two rings for suspension
