Provenance:
Fine Sporting Guns and Vintage Firearms Including the Russell B. Aitken Collection, Christie's, 13th May 2003, Lot 128

Russell B. Aitken (1910-2002)
An all-round American sportsman who excelled in all forms of shooting, Aitken shot for the All-American Skeet teams between 1946 and 1949. He amassed over 40 major titles during those four years, retiring as High Gun for the nation with an average of 99.1 on 1400 all-gauge tournament targets, and was inducted into the National Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame in 1974. In 1963 an international jury also named him as one the six greatest living big game hunters, and Robert Churchill believed him to be the best all-round shot he had ever encountered. This gun, like most of Aitken's guns, was purchased from Abercrombie & Fitch, and is listed as having been used in the following competitions: Madrid (1957); Estoril (1957); Barcelona (1959); Monte Carlo, Valencia (1960); Barcelona (1961). The case bears steamline and competition stickers relating to these, and the stock bears a sticker from the Barcelona competition
