The toplever and rib engraved '2', the rounded action-bar with best bouquet and foliate-scroll engraving, cocking-indicators, articulated front-trigger, replacement trigger-guard strap, well-figured replacement stock, the chopper-lump barrels (slightly loose on action) with game-rib (address illegible)

Footnotes

The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was completed in 1898 as one of a trio made for the Earl of Chesterfield, and that the choke was originally cylinder and modified, but the left barrel was later altered to tight cylinder.

Edwyn Francis Scudamore-Stanhope, KG GCVO PC, 10th Earl of Chesterfield (1854-1933)

The eldest son of the 9th Earl, he succeeded to his father's titles in 1887. He held various positions at court, including Treasurer of the Household (1892-94), Captain of the Gentlemen-at-Arms and Yeoman of the Guard (1894-5), Lord Steward (1910-15) and Master of the Horse (1915-22). He married the Hon. Enid Wilson in 1900, but had no children, and the title passed to his brother, Henry, upon his death
