Footnotes

A FINE COPY, WITH A ROYAL PROVENANCE. This copy was gifted to Princess Augusta Sophia, second daughter of George III and Queen Charlotte, by her brother William IV on the first anniversary of his Coronation, September 8, 1832.

Herbert lists nine variants of this edition of the Bible which, despite the London imprint and date of 1599, were printed in Amsterdam in 1633. The present copy "seems to present a distinct edition... printed... by a compositor who knew enough English to correct a large number of the errors" (Herbert).
