Footnotes

This was no doubt prepared when Ballantyne was going through his past diaries while working on his autobiography towards the end of his life. This was published as Personal Reminiscences in 1893. He died early the following year. Included in the lot are some transcripts from the ledgers of his uncle James's Ballantyne press (recording their transactions with Walter Scott shortly before going under in the early 1820s), and an address presented to Ballantyne by the men of his volunteer company in 1860.
