Papers of Miss Amy Smith, nurse to the children of Princess Frederick Leopold of Prussia (sister-in-law to the Kaiser and to the Duchess of Connaught), including her autograph diary, kept between 1 January and 3 May 1901, on first entering royal service immediately after Queen Victoria's death, giving a charming account of life with the German royal family from the viewpoint of an English girl ("...not accustomed to German beds, so I slept with my feet on the pillow instead of my head, and the next morning I go to little Princess Victoria Margarethe at 7AM as she had lessons at 7.30 she shouted 'Good Morning' she was very big for her age, and nearly as tall as I and so fat and very fair and looked to have a good disposition, then H.R.H. Princess Frederick Leopold, wished to see me, and Greta took me down to her writing room. H.R.H. was very nice, she was also very big, and asked me about my journey..."), nearly 50 pages, some loose, in a clasped 'Tagebuch', 8vo; together with a collection of signed photographs, a series of letters by Amy Smith's charge Princess Victoria Margarethe (1890-1923), and newsclippings relating to her reclusive death in Edgbaston at 1970 (small quantity)
