GEORGE PRINCE REGENT and PIRACY

Commission signed by the Prince Regent ("George PR" at head), authorizing the Earl of Balcarras, Captain James Jameson, to seize "Pirates, Free Booters and Sea Rovers, which do infest the Seas of India", on condition that they are brought to trial and full records are kept, etc., on vellum, corded seal-tie with small fragment of seal attached, some dust-staining (especially where folded overleaf), Carlton House, 14 December 1819

The Earl of Balcarras was, at 1417 tons, the East India Company's largest ship when launched in 1815. She was built of India teak and was copper-fastened throughout with (as cited in this commission) 140 men and 26 guns.
