FERRARI (GIOVANNI BATTISTA)

De florum cultura libri IV, engraved title, 7 engraved plates of parterres, 42 engraved botanical plates of plants, 6 engraved allegorical plates, several leaves browned, small ink spot to one margin, early vellum, upper hinge cracked [Nissen BBI 620; Hunt 222; Pritzel 2877], 4to, Rome, S. Paulinus, 1633

Footnotes

"This is the first of Ferrari's elaborately illustrated books on botanical subjects... the fame of both books [the second is The Hesperides, 1646] rests more on the quality of the engraved plates than on their contribution to botanical knowledge" (Hunt).
This copy is a variant to that recorded by Hunt, having an index leaf in place of an engraved frontispiece, and leaf signature X4 correct. This copy however has more plates than any recorded on ABPC.
