Autograph cheque signed ("Charles Dickens"), made out to "Self", for £5 and drawn on Messrs Coutts & Co., one page, on a printed form, spindle-hole and light scattered foxing, oblong 8vo, London, 13 February 1862

Sold with a note of 1896 by J. Holt Schooling, stating that the cheque "was given to me by Miss Georgina Hogarth, his sister-in-law and the sole surviving executrix of his will". Holt Schooling was a statistician and miscellaneous writer who had contributed an article 'The Signatures of Charles Dickens' to the Strand Magazine in January 1894.
