Footnotes

Scarce, neither work appearing in Wing, Kress or on ESTC, although the text of the first work was published by Carew in one or two other works on the same subject. The letter (2 pages, "Richmond. Decembr 12th 1671") is addressed to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Anthony, Lord Ashley (Anthony Ashley Cooper, 1st Earl of Shaftesbury), and praises the enterprise and loyalty of Sir Paul Pindar and Sir William Courten, suggesting that they deserve compensation for the loss of the two ships and their cargoes, which were captured by the Dutch in 1643.
