SHAW (GEORGE BERNARD)

Correspondence with Frank Reynolds of the English Players, performing at the Théâtre Albert 1er, Paris, and throughout the world (including Egypt and South America), comprising a typescript of "Scene VI – How 'they' understand Bernard Shaw" bearing an autograph addition by Shaw, and half-a-dozen largely autograph letters, cards and notes by him, including a critique of Hubert Osborne's play Eve's Complaint, which received its first performance by the Players in Paris, the series largely concerning Shavian productions ("...The unspeakable infamy of that performance at Cairo convinced me that you are murdering my plays... the part of St Joan inaudible, and the play redeemed only by your excellent performance as the Inquisitor and seven or eight other characters as well..."); together with two letters from the Chamberlain's office, refusing to grant Eve's Complaint a licence; with an envelope (1928) marked by Reynolds "For Joyce"; plus several sets of the Players' accounts, a carbon history of the company ("...Since May 10th, 1922... they have visited 17 countries, and over 200 towns..."), and other correspondence, in two files, some wear, 1926-1935
