Footnotes

The scribe of this most attractive volume – written in a virtuosic array of print hands – was author and publisher of A Picture of Strathern, in Perthshire; or, A Topographical Description of its Scenery, Antiquities, &c (Crieff, 1823); where he describes himself as "Teacher of English, Writing, and Accounts, St. Fillan's by Comrie". It was commissioned by Clementina Sarah Drummond, Lady Gwydir (1786-1865), later Lady Willoughy d'Eresby, who was sole heir of the eleventh Earl of Perth (and thus a member of one of the prominent Jacobite families), and presented to John Wedderburn (1789-1858), later 2nd Bart, a descendant of Sir John Wedderburn who had fought at Culloden and was executed after the battle. Daniel, the author of the memoir, describes how he was recruited into the Jacobite army by the Duke of Perth in person.
