A bronze koro and cover

By Nakajima Yasumi II (1906-1988), early Showa Period
In the form of a warabuki ie (straw-thatched roof hut), naturalistically modelled and cast in two sections, the straw-thatched roof pierced and detachable and forming the cover, the surface with an overall red-brown patina suffused with areas of green; the base engraved with the artist's signature Yasumi, with tomobako, the inside of the lid signed Yasumi and sealed Yasumi. 16.6cm x 21cm x 12.2cm (6½in x 8¼in x 4¾in). Yasumi II is the go chosen by Nakajima Mitsuo; he was a member of the All Japan Decorative Art Association and a regular exhibitor at the annual Japan art exhibition Nitten, where he won several awards.
