Both naturalistically modelled, one cock strutting forward with its tail feathers falling over in an arc, 36.9cm (14½in) high; its companion is rendered with its beak to the ground foraging for food, 12½cm (4 7/8in) high; the ends of their wings and tails of shakudo, both with chiselled signature Mitsuharu saku, with tomobako signed and sealed by the artist Furoan ni oite Katsura Mitsuharu saku with seal Mitsuharu. Katsura Mitsuhara studied under Toyokawa Mitsunaga II (1851‐1923). The artist's works were exhibited in the Paris and Chicago International Exposition, and his other metal works are in the collection of the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.
