A copper twelve-lobed ovoid vase

By Kawashima Toshu, dated Showa 3 (1928)
The body with the surface delicately hammered and divided into twelve lobes separated by vertical ridges, the rim formed of six triangular sections with pointed edges, the base stamped with seal Toshu saku; with wood stand and tomobako, the inside of the lid signed, dated and sealed by the artist. 22½cm (8½in) high. (3).

Little is documented about this artist but the consummate skill and craftsmanship is discernible from the hammering technique of the vase which would have required the object to be raised from a flat piece of copper.
