Of baluster form with flattened shoulder and everted neck, decorated in silver takazogan, nikubori and kebori with discreet details inlaid in gold, depicting a peahen and peacock in flight, the male's elaborate feathers spreading over to the reverse and meticulously chased with gold details, signed with chiselled signature Katsunobu saku with seal Chishinsai; with wood stand and tomobako titled and signed by the artist Ishikawa Katsunobu koku, Hattori Tokeiten kansei with seal Hattori tokei ten sho. 43.2cm (17in) high. 孔雀図銀花瓶 石川勝信 大正時代
Ishikawa Katsunobu, born in Mito, studied metal carving under Namekawa Teisho from 1882 and worked in Tokyo from 1890. The maker is listed by R. Haynes, Index, no. H02847.0 and he is also renowned for his sword fittings.
