Cast in two separate sections, both vases of skittle form, vividly decorated in iro-e takazogan and carved in shishiaibori with a continuous scene of horse-racing at the Kamo shrine in Kyoto, the rim carved with stylised with wisps of clouds, both vases signed in a rectangular reserve Gyoko, with removable circular three-legged stands, carved with ducks on stylised ripples of water. Both vases 76½cm (30 1/16in) high, including the stands. (4).

Akasofu Gyoko (dates unknown) lived in Tokyo, his factory producing cast metalwork for export. His given name was Sotojiro and he is recorded as a member of the Tokyo Chukinkai (Tokyo Cast Metalworkers' Association) in the second half of the Meiji period.
