An inlaid bronze koro and cover

By Makino, Meiji Period
Cast in two separate sections, the base supported on four bronze fantastical mask-tongued feet, the globular body decorated in silver and gilt takazogan, with a sparrow resting on a tall bearded iris, the cover surmounted by a finial in the form of an eagle gripping a recumbent hare, the bird of prey patinated in gilt, bronze and shakudo, the base signed in gilt seal form Makino no in. 63½cm (25in) high.
