An extremely large Imari jardinière

19th century
In the form of a drum, finely painted in underglaze-blue, enamels and gilt with overlapping fan and other shaped cartouches enclosing flowers and ho-o amidst a variety of auspicious symbols including paulownia-mon, Bugaku drums and fundo; beneath bands of asa-no-ha and ho-o among karakusa, the rim fitted with a later glass top.
39cm x 57½cm (15¼in x 22½in).
