Both boxes sharing the same lid, decorated with a swarm of fireflies, extending down to the sides, hovering at night over mooring posts and reeds, all embellished in gold and iro-e hiramakie and takamakie with details inlaid in kirigane, the insects' glowing bodies picked out in e-nashiji, the interior and underside of rich nashiji; the writing box fitted with an ink-stone and silver water dropper, unsigned. 8cm x 21½cm x 14cm (3 1/16in x 8½in x 5½in).
