PROVENANCE:
Margaret Drummond, by direct descent. (Margaret was the grandmother of the vendor's aunt, Aylmer Merelina Drummond.)
The model in the present lot is Margaret Drummond who was the daughter of the Arts & Crafts designer W.A.S. Benson. She posed for the Perseus series and was one of Burne-Jones's favourite models at this time. Her portrait was also painted by Sir William Blake Richmond, RA.
