With very long tapering spike of stiff diamond section flattened on each side at the ricasso, hinged hollow rectangular socket with reinforced slot (one cover removed) on each side of the base to accept a double spring-catch operated by a flat button on either side of the tubular basal mount, original staff of circular section covered in burgundy silk brocade (worn) with central tassel, and iron shoe of tapering circular section with pierced triangular foot-plate on one side
