A German Or Swiss Halberd
Mid-16th Century

With stout spike of stiff diamond section flattened at the base, axe-blade with oblique cutting-edge, curved in above and below, and deeply struck with a mark on one side, beak-shaped fluke cusped above and below, and open socket extended on each side to form two waved or 'flame'-shaped straps (one repaired, some pitting), on later wooden staff of octagonal section
