A Russian Naval Officer's 1855 Pattern Sword Awarded For Bravery
Reign Of Tsar Nicholas II (1894-1917), Circa 1915

With bright German pipe-back blade becoming double-edged towards the point and etched over half its length on each side with scrolling foliage involving a fouled anchor and sailing ship, the forte on one side stamped with Solingen maker's name, brass hilt retaining traces of gilding and comprising two bars of oval section swept-up to join the knuckle-guard and each engraved 'For Bravery' in Russian, downscrolled rear quillon, flat hexagonal langets, the inner one engraved with recipient's monogram in cyrillic, a crown above, pommel and back-piece in one, the former with threaded ovoidal cap with applied Order of St. Anne (originally gilt, enamel mostly missing), wire-bound leather-covered grip, and later St. Anne silk and bullion sword-knot (damaged), in its steel scabbard painted black (replacing the original leather) with original brass locket, chape and suspension mount each engraved with double line ornament and retaining faint traces of original gilding, and two rings for suspension
