An Indian Mail And Plate Shirt
Deccani, 17th Century

Of alternate rows of riveted and solid iron rings of varying degrees of thickness, comprising a long-sleeved thigh-length shirt, open up the front and with three rows of rectangular laminated plates at the back, the central ones with cusped lower edge, and at the front two rectangular plates flanked by two narrower plates under the armpits, each of the larger plates carrying three transverse riveted bars each with floret-shaped finial and carrying loops (four missing) for fastening laces, the plate on the right incised with a Hindi inscription, and with later padded textile lining (some surface rust)
