An Unusual Indian Tulwar
18th/19th Century

The curved blade with bright waved cutting-edge double-edged en suite towards the point, the back of the blade chiselled with a decorative border along each side in imitation of a reinforcing plate, and with a gold-damascened rectangular panel containing Arabic calligraphy on each side of the forte, characteristic iron hilt decorated overall with gold-damascened flowering foliage and comprising pointed langets, button quillons, curved tapering knuckle-guard with bud-shaped finial, disc-shaped pommel with button finial on a dome, and flattened swelling grip
