With bright sharply tapering blade of flattened hexagonal section changing to flattened diamond towards the point, the forte on both sides etched and gilt with symmetrical foliated strapwork against a hatched ground and centred on an oval framing a trophy of arms, the hilt of characteristic form decorated in relief with rococo ornament, flowers and foliage within minute gold beaded borders framing pastoral scenes involving couples in contemporary costume, cows, sheep, three dogs, a bird, and a squirrel, the scenes on the symmetrical shell-guard including an old man with a young woman and a young man with an old woman, all the decoration of exceptional quality, the original wooden grip bound with three thicknesses of twisted silver wire, in original vellum-covered scabbard with chiselled steel locket and chape en suite with the hilt, the latter signed within rococo ornament on the inner side and fitted with frog-hook on the outer, in fine condition throughout with the original burnished finish on the blade
