Footnotes

The blade commemorates the Transylvanian Hungarian ruler (Voivode) Prince György Rádkóczi II who was born on 30 January 1621. He was elected prince during his father's lifetime and ascended the throne in October 1648. In 1657, together with his ally Charles X Gustav, he led a force of 40,000 men against the Polish King John Casimir during the Second Northern War (1655-60), known as the Deluge. He captured Cracow and entred Warsaw. However, following the withdrawal of the Swedes he was defeated by the Poles at the battle at Czarny Ostrów in July 1657. Following a Turkish invasion of Transylvania Rákóczy died at Nagyvarad of wounds received during the battle of Gyalu in May 1660
